sound therapy

Sound therapy is a multidimensional practice that utilizes the power of vibration and sound to transmit healing frequencies into and around the body.

Both private and group sessions can induce deep meditative and hypnogogic states capable of transporting individuals to a space of healing and peace.

Thousands of years of practice support this ever-evolving form of therapy. Recently backed by scientific research and supported by cross-cultural sharing and practices, this art form has taken on new life.

Sound therapy sessions are currently only available in New York either at Shou Sugi Ban House or privately in your home. I am currently accepting bookings for April 2-12 2024

All sessions include an introduction, yoga nidra, individual healing and integration.

why sound therapy?

Sound therapy is an ancient art practiced throughout all cultures and continues to spread because of its multidimensional benefits. At its core, sound therapy involves the healing use of frequencies to encourage physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. One of the primary advantages lies in its ability to induce deep relaxation and hypnogogic states by activating our parasympathetic nervous system. The harmonious, and sometimes dissonant vibrations produced by instruments like singing bowls, gongs, tuning forks, drums, chimes and the voice resonate with the body's cells, releasing tension and stagnant energies. This meditative state supports the body's innate capacity to heal. Seeing as stress is a pervasive factor in most health issues, sound therapy provides a gentle yet powerful approach to mitigating its impact, leading to improved sleep, energy, and wellbeing.

Sound healing is recognized for its potential in enhancing cognitive function and emotional balance. The rhythmic patterns and frequencies employed in sound therapy have been shown to synchronize brainwaves, promoting mental clarity and focus. This synchronization can also stimulate the release of endorphins, fostering a positive emotional state and aiding in the healing of conditions such as depression or anxiety. Beyond individual well-being, sound healing is integrated into group settings, fostering a sense of community and bonding. Whether experienced individually or communally, the benefits of sound therapy extend beyond the session, influencing aspects of daily life by promoting a more harmonious relationship between mind, body, and spirit.

Hypnagogic states refer to the transitional phase between wakefulness and sleep, which frequently occur during sound therapy sessions. These states are characterized by a variety of sensory experiences, visions, and a state of hightened consciousness. The term "hypnagogic" is derived from the Greek words "hypnos," meaning sleep, and "agogos," meaning leading into. Conversely, the transition from sleep to wakefulness is termed "hypnopompic."

Hypnagogic states, hold a unique and multifaceted significance across spiritual and cultural landscapes. In various spiritual traditions, the hypnagogic state is seen as a liminal space where individuals may receive profound spiritual insights or messages from the subconscious. This transitional phase is considered a powerful form of meditation, providing a gateway to expanded awareness and connection with higher realms. If you are able to stay in this space, without drifting to sleep you are granted the opportunity to communication with the divine.
